Lazy Lizards Kids Yoga Mat Poses & Descriptions
Stand with your feet together, arms at your side. Take a deep breath in as you raise your arms out to the side and up towards the sky. Breathe out and imagine that your feet are roots planted into the ground. Stretch out your hands and fingers towards the sun like branches and leaves. Close your eyes and imagine the wind gently blowing you from side to side. Take a few deep breaths.
Stand with your feet together and focus your eyes on something (that is not moving) out in front of you. Take a deep breath in and place the bottom of your right foot on your inner left ankle or calf. Breathe out and place your hands on your hips. Imagine your pink wings out to the side while you balance on one foot. Take a few deep breaths and then lower your foot to the ground. Now repeat on the other side with your left foot up.
Stand with your feet a little wider then your hips. Breathe in deeply, as you breathe out lower your body down to a squat position. Place your fingertips on the mat for balance. Now take a little hop straight up in the air to catch a fly. Don’t forget to croak and ribbit.
Sit on your mat in a comfortable position. Take a deep breath in and as you breathe out open your mouth as wide as you can while roaring your loudest roar. Do this again only this time with your tongue stretched out past your lower lip. Don't forget to ROAR!
Get on your hands and knees, with your knees under your hips and hands under your shoulders. Make your back flat like a table. Take a deep inhale as you arch your back and lower your stomach towards the ground. Imagine your tail raising up to the sky and raise your chest and face up to the sun. Exhale and softly purrrr.
Go back to the table position with a flat back. Now gently suck in your stomach, breathe out and round your back up like there is a big ball underneath of you. Imagine your tail tucked under and look at your fuzzy tummy.
Lay down on your stomach in a straight line, face down with your legs and feet pressed together. Place your hands on the mat under your shoulders. Breathe in as you raise your head up off the mat with out pushing up with your hands. Breathe out making a hissing noise. Lower your head back down and then repeat.
Get on your hands and knees. Breathe in and curl your toes under while you press your hands into the mat. Breathe out and push your self up with your bottom up to the sky (making an upside down V shape). Leave your legs and arms bent a little. Look at your furry back feet as you hang upside down. Take a few deep breaths.
Lay down on your stomach, face down with your hands placed on the mat under your shoulders. Breathe in and as you breathe out gently press your shoulders up and off the mat by lightly pushing your hands into the mat. Now pant like a dog a few times.
Sit on your mat with the bottoms of your feet pressed together and knees out to the side. Imagine that your legs are colorful wings. Slowly flap your legs like the gentle movement of a butterfly.
Sit on your mat, legs out in front of you hip distance apart. Breathe in and bend you knees, placing the bottoms of your feet on the mat. Breathe out and lean forward resting your chest on your thighs. Place your hands on the mat out in front of you. Slowly glide your arms around your body until they are behind you. Imagine that your hands are pressing the water back, gliding you through the ocean.
Lay down on your back with your body in a straight line and arms at your side. Close your eyes and let all of your body relax. Let your feet flop out to the side. Imagine that you are a lazy lizard, lounging in the warm sun, about to fall asleep.
